 Searching and Evaluating On-line Resources

Objectives of this Module:

To learn to distinguish between different on-line research tools.

To learn to conduct efficient on-line searches.

To raise participants' awareness of the wealth of digital resources available for educators.

To evaluate web resources that may be valuable in the implementation of the Sunshine State Standards and the A+ Plan.

 Strategies of this Module:
The Institute facilitators present an introduction to Searching and Evaluating Information on the Internet. Information covered includes a description of two on-line research tools, search engines and subject indexes, with examples demonstrating how each tool works. This is followed by a description of assessment criteria used in evaluating web sites for use by educators. Participants will put the information learned to practical use through the Learning Cards and additional practice activities.
 Activities:
Participants, assigned to individual computers, work through the Searching and Evaluating Information learning cards as they conduct on-line research. Participants then apply these skills as they complete the activities designed to assist school administrators in providing support to their staff in using the Internet as an effective educational resource and management tool.
